Archaeologie am Berg 2016

The Natural History Museum Vienna invites on Saturday 20 and Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 10:00 to 17:00 to "Archäologie am Berg": "Goat bag and laser scanning" - Prästentation of research in the NHM field office in Hallstatt / Alte Schmiede.
To enable access to the fascinating world of prehistoric miners in Hallstatt also in the www, the NHM Vienna is working intensively on the digital documentation of the tunnels, stopes and finds. In addition to the impressive results of this work the used techniques will be explained: laser scanners, three-dimensional photo models and 3D printers.


Also prehistoric crafts techniques will be explained: How were bronze pimples prepared and used?  How was the Hallstatt backpack made of goatskin produced? Come with us into the world of historic mining and learn how scientists from different disciplines explore the environment of prehistoric mining and gain an insight into the life of the Hallstatt miners more than 3,000 years ago.

The program is accompanied by a culinary journey through the ancient world. Discover delicacies from  old Hallstatt and exotic food from the Roman Empire. See, hear, taste, smell and be amazed! Experience an exciting weekend with current research projects of the NHM Vienna and its partners on the Hallstatt Salzberg!

The participation is free! Only the Salzbergbahn is to pay.
