Invitation to the press conference: New presentation of the showcases "Minerals of Austria
16. November 2021
From rock salt to smoky quartz: The permanent exhibition "Minerals of Austria" in the mineralogical exhibition halls of the
Natural History Museum Vienna has been newly revised and set up! The freshly designed showcases are now opened and presented
to the public in new splendor.
Austria is small, but relatively rich in various
ores and minerals. The newly designed permanent exhibition shows and explains the most significant, beautiful and interesting
mineral treasures of the country. Historical treasures, such as those from salt mining or gold prospecting, are presented
alongside modern raw materials such as lithium, which occurs in spodumene on the Koralpe, or tungsten, which is mined and
extracted from scheelite in the Felbertal. The exhibition also introduces the museum guests to the topics "Geology of Austria"
or the "typically Austrian" minerals, such as wulfenite, at information points.
