Main Objects

Because of the dimension of the collection main focus of the small team of our collection has to be placed on curating of our holdings (documentation, digitalization, keeping the material available for disposal, etc.) and the support for our users (questions, visits).

Research and scientific work

• fish species of the Dinaric karst landscape (genetics, distribution, morphology)
• genetics of Phoxinus phoxinus from (high-)alpine waters
• monitoring of fish community of national park Neusiedlersee/Seewinkel
• preparation of a type-catalogue
• aquatic ecosystem and species conservation assessment (Red Lists, expert reports, etc.)
• systematics, biogeography, evolutionary history, and comparative anatomy of European and Neotropical freshwater fishes
