The ORF Long Night of Museums at NHM Vienna and in the Pathological-anatomical Collection in the Narrenturm.

 

The Natural History Museum Vienna (NHM) is a cultural and historical gem and at the same time a significant natural science institution, with collections that are more than 270 years old. Today around 30 million objects are kept there. The highlights include the Venus of Willendorf, Steller's sea cow and a special hall for science communication ('Deck 50').


UNPACKING!

The museum's archives are full of treasures. Known and unknown artefacts will be unpacked to shed new light on them using innovative methods and perspectives. Find out more from the researchers at the NHM.

 

FAMILY PROGRAMME ‘UNPACKING’ ON DECK 50

A giant dinosaur bone or a tiny grain of moon dust? The packages that arrive at the NHM are full of surprises. Take part in the quiz on Deck 50 and guess what's inside our boxes!

 

NHM ABOVE THE ROOFTOPS OF VIENNA 
(AT 7 PM, 8 PM, 9 PM, AND 10.30 PM)

A cultural and historical walking tour of the museum, ending with a cocktail on the roof. Limited number of participants, from the age of 12, € 9.

 

VIENNA ASTRONOMY ASSOCIATION (WAA) 
(9 PM-12 AM)

A look through the telescopes of the WAA at the stars over Vienna. Maria-Theresien-Platz, in front of the NHM.


Pathological-anatomical collection at the „Narrenturm“:
The Narrenturm with its pathological-anatomical collection (Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Vienna) also participates in the Long Night: The permanent exhibition shows various topics of pathology as well as its historical development in Vienna. The history of the building, the so-called "Narrenturm", is equally discussed, including its historically accurate restoration.


KNOWLEDGE PROTECTS!
(AT 7 PM, 8 PM AND 9 PM)

How do sexually transmitted infections (STIs) affect the body? How can I become infected? What protection is available? These and other questions about STIs will be answered in this educational programme. For space reasons, the number of participants is limited to 15. Duration approx. 45 minutes.
